How to flash Xiaomi MI Redmi Note 4 MTK using SP Flash Tool & fix cust.img error

Redmi Note 4  runs on Android 7.0 Nougat themed with HiOS.

This device is a 5.5-inch ips touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels, 401ppi. A size of 151 x 76 x 8.4 mm and weighs about 172g.

Powered by 2.1GHz Deca core MediaTek MT6797 Helio X20 processor  with Mali-T880MP4 GPU. There are different type of config on this device 2+16, 3+32, 3+64 and 4+64 RAM and ROM respectively. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB with microSD.

There is a 13MP primary camera with LED Flash and a 5-megapixel front selfie camera.

This is a dual SIM Phone with other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. Supports GSM, WCDMA and LTE networks. Sensors on this phone include fingerprint scanner, Compass Magnetometer, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and Gyroscope.

How to flash this device using SP Flash Tool

Note

Follow the instructions on how to flash the device carefully below

I will not take responsibility on whatever may happen to your device.

Flash at your own risk..

Make sure you are downloading the exact ROM of the device you want to flash because 

 flashing a wrong preloader, will make the device completely dead 

(can't power on, can't charge and will not be detected by a computer)

Download, MTK VCOM USB drivers from here
Download, latest SP Flash Tool from here

Extract the firmware you downloaded above using winrar or 7zip
Rename the extension of the newly extracted file to .tar
Now extract the new nikel_global_images_V9.6.1.0.MBFMIFD_20180620.tar file

Launch Flashtool

Click on scatter loader button
Navigate to image folder found inside the extracted files
Select the scatter file inside the  of the device you want to flash

Select Firmware Upgrade from drop down menu
Click Download Button
Now turn off and connect your device to PC
Wait for flashing process to complete
Reboot device

Unbricking Redmi Note 4 using cust.img

If the flash process stops and gives & error message with cust-verified.img, do the following
Download the the signed cust.img for Redmi Note 4 above
Extract and replace the cust.img found inside image folder of the extracted folder with new one
Load you scatter file and flash device again.

Note that sometimes this errors still show on sp flash tool even after after using the signed cust.img so use WiseLink Tool to flash device
Download latest version WiseLink Tool
Launch Wiselink and load scatter file
Click on cust from the list navigate to image folder and select the new signed cust.img file.
Now click Download button and connect phone to PC
Wait for process to complete
Phone will reboot.
